Serves as a technical expert in the successful development and maintenance of products and solutions. Serves as a liaison to provide consultant advice on some or all of the following: Product distribution; Solution/product design; Financial analysis/forecasting; Operational procedures and standards; Competitive Intelligence; Regulatory changes; Systems applications that support product features; Underwriting/suitability; Actuarial Pricing; Marketing and positioning; Fund additions & performance analysis. Leads key initiatives to address product strategy and profitability objectives. Communicates product/solution strategic direction throughout the organization.

Job Description

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Vice President, AVP; May have direct and indirect reports; leads cross-department project teams.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the development and maintenance, including designing and modeling the features/capabilities of products from beginning to end with direct responsibility for the products managed from a growth, profitability, capital, and risk perspective.

  • Partners with sales leadership and finance to provide cost impact solutions and/or opportunities related to product design options. Develops business cases that support customer acquisition initiatives.Generates multiple solutions that address client/customer needs based on an assessment of the situation.

  • Drives incremental and adjacent innovation to differentiate products and solutions in the market place.

  • Proactively identifies new market and business opportunities to support the enterprise vision and strategic objectives.Reacts appropriately to competitive landscape and market conditions.

  • Provides support and leadership to all functional areas of the company to promote product/solution strategy, design and management.

  • Serves as liaison to provide consultant advice across the organization to implement new products and solutions. Looks for synergies or added value from developments across business units and multiple disciplines.Facilitates problem resolution across business units.

  • Negotiates strategic relationships related to product delivery, including vendor and partner alliances.

  • Responsible for the performance metrics and expectations as it relates to the product/solution implementation and business model.

  • Communicates product strategy throughout the organization including senior management. Adapts communications, presentations, and influences strategy to match needs of various clients or to appeal to needs of others whose support is important.

  • Works closely with sales leadership to develop sales strategy for assigned business unit products and services.

  • Develops, produces and maintains ad hoc and custom sales report analysis.Consults with leadership regarding product trends, provides recommendations regarding sales analysis opportunities.

  • Works closely with Fund Managers and internal teams (IMG, Office of Investments, NWAM) to evaluate and standup new fund options within existing products.

  • Leads key project initiatives for the business in support of initial product offerings, product re-designs, or tangential applications such as commissions, new business processing, or policy administration.

  • Facilitates client understanding of various product options and helps to prioritize options.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of pricing, client needs, market needs, and sales positioning.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:

Education: Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, marketing or related discipline preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Insurance licenses or industry designations (i.e. ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP, NASD, etc.) preferred.

Experience: Ten years of experience in marketing, underwriting, claims, or a financial services related industry, with at least four years in a product leadership or management role.

Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of products, regulatory framework governing such products, and organization acumen. Develops recommendations relative to individual product positioning in target markets. Broad knowledge of marketing techniques and approaches. Working knowledge of service offerings and a high level of knowledge of products, competitors, customers and regulatory agencies. Evidence of increasing responsibility and exposure to research, analysis and development, and standards and practices for the selection, evaluation and pricing of lines risks.

Skills/Competencies: Demonstrated responsible decision making. Skilled in the use of analytic tools. Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, and to understand strategic objectives. Ability to prioritize and manage long-term projects, as well as quick turnaround assignments. Expert level negotiation and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with Senior Leadership, business partners and all levels of associates. Ability to work in committees and act as project participant in all aspects of product design and maintenance. Proven team building and leadership skills. Ability to influence without authority.
