Role is part of the Nationwide Innovation Team and is focused specifically on creating and communicating a cross-enterprise view of Innovation initiatives by establishing and measuring the portfolio and corresponding metrics.
Collaborating with business unit innovation leaders and other stakeholders, the Senior Innovation Portfolio Consultant will be responsible for cataloging, categorizing, and measuring the portfolio of core, adjacent and transformational initiatives. This leader will collaborate with Innovation stakeholders to determine the types of initiatives that are appropriate for inclusion in the innovation portfolio.
This role will work in partnership with the Office of Corporate Strategy, Finance, and Innovation stakeholders to identify and track appropriate innovation metrics. Metrics will be focused on innovation inputs and activity (concept pipeline, association programs) as well as outcomes (launches, revenue). This role will manage the portfolio dashboard including analysis of activity and monitoring to ensure pipeline of work is aligned with Innovation strategy and growth goals. As innovation at Nationwide matures, the Senior Innovation Portfolio Consultant will update and evolve the innovation metrics accordingly.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to VP innovation; one direct report.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partners with Innovation stakeholders across Nationwide to catalogue innovation work, identify synergies and create connection points across silos
Develops and standardizes innovation metrics
Maintains metrics and portfolio dashboard
Responsible for analyzing metrics and portfolio to ensure performance linkage to enterprise innovation objectives
Supports Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) and Vice President (VP), Innovation though the development and delivery of communications to Innovation stakeholders.
Serves as a feedback loop between the CIO, VP Innovation, and Innovation Stakeholders thought leadership
Keeps a pulse on industry movement and activities, and remains on top of key trends within insurance, financial services, startups and technology companies with a focus on innovation portfolios and metrics
Anticipates where relevant companies, trends, and technologies might be going and informs strategies
Performs other duties as assigned
TYPICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business, marketing, product or engineering, MBA preferred.
Experience: 10+ years of diverse business experiences with an emphasis on strategy, finance, innovation and product management.
Knowledge: Diverse business experience, especially in innovation and the development of new products, new services, and building new businesses, all the while demonstrating a highly collaborative approach for win-win solutions internally and externally. Must have an understanding the various business building blocks of the new opportunity to development of an investable business case and new business models, you should possess a quick and keen understanding of past, current and future business and technical strategies, technologies, and current trends. Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to explore business opportunities in a structured yet iterative way. Experience working in PowerPoint and presentation creation; Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Skills/Competencies: Strong financial and analytical skills and a proven ability to think strategically about customer needs, market dynamics and business impact. Natural curiosity about people and customers and comfortable with ambiguity. Excellent verbal and written communications skills;

Ability to clearly articulate findings and recommendations, as well as the ability to analyze the results of modeling and testing

Reporting to the P&C Innovation Leader, the P&C Innovation Portfolio Manager is part of the P&C Innovation Team and is focused on creating and communicating a cross-P&C view of our Innovation initiatives. This role will work closely with the innovation teams within P&C (Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, Claims, etc.) to coach through the innovation framework and help them prepare for stage-gate reviews. This role will also work closely with Corporate Innovation to ensure alignment and consistency in tracking metrics, activity, and outcomes between P&C, NF, and Corporate innovation. Additionally, this role will help to manage the P&C Venture portfolio in collaboration with the Corporate Ventures team.
The ideal candidate will have experience in design thinking innovation, have in-depth knowledge of the P&C businesses, and experience in managing a portfolio of initiatives. The ideal candidate must enjoy building relationships, collaborating with and coaching others, and driving results in an ambiguous environment.
