We are growing our Inside Sales team at Grandview Yard. Inside Sales Representatives take inbound calls from 46 different states and help potential members interested in our complete line of insurance products!

We are here to earn the trust and business of prospective members and to help drive the growth of Nationwide.

Reporting Relationships: You report to the Inside Sales Leader; you have no direct reports.

You should also have:

• A high school diploma, preferably some college coursework

• Two years of related work experience in a sales and customer service position, preferably in the insurance industry

• General knowledge of sales techniques, insurance products and procedures

• The ability to obtain licensing required for property/casualty products

Job Summary

A typical day in the life of an Inside Sales Rep:

  1. Answering calls/emails from prospects - and scheduling follow-ups as needed

  2. No cold calling! Forget the hassle and frustration of prospecting

  5. Completing ratings, quotes, and coverage bindings

Training & Work Schedule

Your career at Nationwide begins on March 11, 2019 with our paid license preparation program and license obtainment. You will then complete an award-winning 10-week training program that is designed to set you up for success and confidence in your new role. Your training schedule will be Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5:30 PM followed by a regular work schedule of 10:30 AM - 7 PM, Monday-Friday. Regular work schedule subject to change.

Job Conditions

A fun contact center environment where extended hours of sitting and typing at your PC, complete with dual monitors and headset, are the norm. Occasional deadlines and prospective member needs may warrant the need for schedule flexibility and overtime. On the odd occasion, you may have to lift something more than 20 pounds.

Job Summary: Responsible for the sale and retention of commercial line insurance via direct (inbound and/or outbound) telephone or internet contact with prospective customers in multiple states. Provides counseling regarding insurance needs and product availability. Provides quotes, determines eligibility, and binds coverage after collecting all related underwriting data and information. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work as required to close the sale. Trained in writing business property, business liability, worker's comp, business auto, commercial umbrella insurance and bonds. Also able to cross-sell and/or transition to personal lines sales.

Job Description

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Direct Sales Supervisor. No direct or indirect reports.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Receives incoming calls/emails from commercial lines insurance prospects and uses multiple internal and external resources and best practices to consult with and educate clients about coverage needs by performing duties such as: front end underwriting, risk assessment, financial analysis, and loss runs analysis in order to sell insurance. Offers additional Nationwide Insurance products to provide all applicable discounts and assist with future retention efforts. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work to close the sale as stated in best practices.

2)Collect information for risk assessment, provide insurance portfolios and quotes, and influence prospect customers to select and purchase Nationwide products.

3)Researches and prospects commercial insurance potential customers through the use of internal (telephone calls or internet leads) or external leads. Solicits outbound potential customers who did not purchase during initial inquiry to overcome objections and complete the sale.

4)Writes quality risk policies based on underwriting requirements; makes decisions by interpreting and using appropriate classification systems, rating plans, tiers, and selection standards; utilizes training and sales techniques to close the sale.

5)Forwards potential customers to other Nationwide channels as appropriate. Answers questions, provides explanations, and makes recommendations to applicants regarding appropriate coverage for commercial policies, limits, deductibles; considers customer needs as well as company guidelines. Determines and enters rating information into systems; provides quotation, and binds coverage within prescribed limits.

6)Completes necessary applications and forms; issues conditional contact/binder within authority. Follows up for necessary documents and collects payments in order to close the sale. Educates customer on payment and audit process. Uses opportunity to cross sell personal line of business.

7)Ensures retention of commercial line accounts for the policy’s first renewal, therefore maintains accountability for the policies written at least one year after the issuance date. Contacts customers in pending cancellations to collect payments to avoid lapses in coverage. Works with customers and retention team underwriters to ensure policyholder needs being met. Follows up with customers quarterly to ensure policy adapts to customers’ businesses.

8)Provides ongoing customer service and sales support. Services policies of members which includes sending additional certificates, cross selling additional products, and amending policies.

9)Assists and contributes to the team's current quotas/goals by meeting individual quotas/goals, as well as unit/team goals.

10)Maintains current understanding and proficiency in sales techniques and product offerings, keeps up to date with market conditions and competitors, and systems enhancements. Cross-trains on other products and lines of business.

11)Performs outbound care review calls to retain current business.

12)Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; undergraduate studies preferred. Continuing education as required by state(s). Prefer participation in professional insurance coursework.

Experience: Three or more years of related work experience in sales and insurance. Prefer exposure to multiple product property/casualty insurance consultation.

License: State licensing as required for property/casualty commercial insurance products. Continuing education as required by state(s). Associates must obtain the required state licenses within the time period designated by the business unit. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of sales techniques, property/casualty commercial insurance products, insurance processing systems and procedures, best practices, state regulations and customer service practices.

Skills/Competencies: Possesses strong verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate technical insurance information to prospective customers and influence prospective customers to select Nationwide products. Ability to operate personal computer hardware/software in a WINDOWS environment.
