The ideal Quality Engineer candidate is expected to have at least a year of experience testing on agile teams translating business requirements into testable components. Must provide examples of demonstrating quality assurance and control examples to ensure system product and process quality.

The candidate may have demonstrated experience with test design and execution with an end to end testing mindset by maintaining and building test suites. Must also have good collaboration and communication skills. Also required is the ability to use the appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management needs, build and execute test automation modules, test for security, enable performance tests, and define and execute regression test.

These positions are in support of the Business Solution Areas and Application Suites in the current Test Engineering & Automation Wave. Their assignment will be to work on an Agile build line utilizing the Application Suite’s Quality Management Approach, leveraging risk based testing tools, and script-less automation tools where applicable.

The Quality Engineer will support the adoption of the test automation tools and techniques to enable efficient and lean testing practices for the BSA. Candidates should have the ability to define, create, execute, and maintain end to end tests for business areas. The approach includes but is not limited to:

• Defines test data strategy to support scope/asset level tests: identifies test data patterns for functional testing.

• Develops story/feature-level acceptance tests; executes script-less acceptance tests and conducts exploratory testing and structured manual testing

• Leverages Risk Based Testing tools to help optimize test suites

• Implements the Quality Management Approach to optimizes test suites

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, translates business and system needs into user interface specifications for development referenced during the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), using requirements elicitation, analysis, specification, verification and management techniques for this purpose. UCD Analysts are engaged in work efforts at all scales ranging from minor defect fixes and enhancements to development of new applications. They are also involved in all types of solution approaches (e. g. , custom development, package implementation, etc. ) A UCD Analyss work is predominately focused on the Graphical User Interface (GUI), but not exclusively, as Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems and the like benefit from the discipline.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Manager/Director

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares detailed specifications, requirements, scope documents and logic flowcharts for the development and implementation of basic application programs and modifications.

  2. Conducts quality-control tests and analyses to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements. Ensures the project requirements are executable, testable, complete and not ambiguous.

  3. Analyzes systems requirements and existing business processes and information systems and develops cost-effective information technology solutions.

  4. Analyzes routine application systems issues and provides technical solutions.

  5. Assists with requirements validation activities, including functional validation and traceability and consensus building.

  6. Under direct supervision, tests and analyzes each component/phase of the systems development life cycle including the project requirements, design and programs.

  7. Executes tests according to established plans and scripts, documents and communicates results. Retests corrections to ensure problems are resolved.

  8. Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of test data files with valid and invalid records to thoroughly test program logic and verify system flow.

  9. Performs activities related to User-Centered Design Analysis including the following: Conceptual Design, including UCD and end-to-end experience design; Interaction Design, including Information architecture and workflow analysis; Visual Design, including page design and rapid prototyping.

  10. Performs user research and validation, including usability testing and contextual inquiry/analysis.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science management information systems, business administration, Usability and Design/Human Factors, insurance or related field is preferred.

Knowledge: Sound understanding of the Nationwide business. Knowledge of the Solution Delivery Framework and Methodology. Familiarity with development methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, or Rational Unified Process (RUP). Knowledge in one or more technical areas that support application development, applications, or infrastructure components.

Experience: One year of related experience.

Skills: Basic understanding and awareness of the following skills as they relate to IT

Analysis profession: Conceptual design, User-centered design, end-to-end experience design, Interaction design, Information architecture, Workflow analysis, Visual & page design, rapid prototyping, User research & validation, Usability, Contextual inquiry/analysis.

profession: workforce planning & management, ESDm, Traceability, Test Script creation. Demonstrated capability in the following skills: business acumen, use of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies & tools, requirements specification, static testing.
